SANLITUN DISTRICT, BEIJING

Located in Beijing’s vibrant Sanlitun district, the COS flagship store weaves contemporary design with the cultural capital’s rich historical fabric – opening a dialogue between past and present.
Designed in-house by COS interior specialists and curated alongside SINGCHAN DESIGN and local artisans, the inviting space in the vibrant Sanlitun District translates timeless symbols of Beijing’s architectural heritage into a modern spatial experience. A geometric façade reminiscent of the Jin bricks in the Forbidden City welcomes visitors into the store, setting the tone for a modern design language celebrating cultural tradition. Inside, a backdrop of dark walls and custom ceramic tiles handcrafted by local studio Zebound frames the latest collections, while the deep red terrazzo spiral staircase – another reference to the enduring walls of the Forbidden City – draws the eye to the depth of the room. Travelling upstairs, the palette shifts to a lighter spectrum of colours, creating the considered contrast synonymous with COS.

For the furnishing and decor curation, COS collaborated with SINGCHAN DESIGN, a Guangzhou-based studio founded by Sing Chan, whose work explores the intersection of present and past. Their concept of tile harmony, a principle rooted in the joining of tiles in traditional Chinese architecture, becomes a core design reference. This idea informs the matching cowhide-walnut sofa and chairs as well as the modular coffee table – a statuesque reinterpretation of the Great Wall of China. A continued appreciation of materiality and traditional craftsmanship come to life through large sculptural vases handcrafted and glazed by local artisan OPEN OBJECT, thoughtfully placed throughout. Finally, custom lanterns by esteemed artisan Wentao Li illuminate the space, creating a warm and inviting ambiance for all who visit.
