THE COS GUIDE TO PRODUCT CARE

DENIM
Jeans and other denim separates are classic pieces of the everyday wardrobe and require a similar approach to washing, drying and storage. Denim is defined by its durable twill structure and requires infrequent washing. A few times per season is enough due to its hardwearing nature. Spot clean and ventilate between wears instead.
When machine washing, do so inside out on a gentle wash at 30°C or lower to prevent colour fading. Specialist detergents can also be used. Avoid tumble drying as it can result in shrinkage. Instead, hang to dry and the weight of the denim will naturally ease out any creases. To repair, a clean rip can be hand-stitched from the inside, then up and down along the width and length of the tear. For older jeans, consider cutting them into shorts, then rolling and stitching the hems to disguise raw edges.
