INTRODUCING: THE LEATHER MOCCASIN LOAFER
In the historic city of Porto, where generations of shoemakers have honed their craft, the COS moccasin loafer is brought to life. Leather specialists from the region combine technique with an eye for quality to create a new classic; a loafer defined by understated elegance, reimagined through the COS design lens.
Specific stages of the shoemaking process – such as hand-marking, hand-polishing and hand-stitching the vamp – are manually carried out by skilled craftspeople, while the remaining parts of the shoe, including the sole, are assembled using machines. Tanned in Portugal, the leather hide is carefully inspected for flaws, marked with chalk to create the pattern and then assembled with a shoe last onto a full leather sole. The heel is designed with nails for wear-resistance and a gentleman's corner – a bevelled instep on the corner of the heel originally developed to prevent trouser hems catching on the shoe. The leather upper is then hand-stitched at the vamp to achieve the shoe's distinct gathering, a detail drawn from the traditional moccasin silhouette, followed by brushing and hand-polishing for a refined finish.
